13. PROJECT OBJECTIVE: (Describe the major purpose of the project.) |
-To construct new buildings: one in Phnom Penh RTTC and another in Battambang RTTC.
The reasons are that few existing buildings were old or wrecked and need to be repaired,or
demolished and replaced with the new ones.
-To furnish teaching and learning facilities in the above new building (desk, chair, libraries, latrines, laboratory
-To provide supporting teaching and learning materials and equipment (from Japan) to the above new buildings.
-To improve the learning achievement and environment of teacher trainees.

14. PROJECT DESCRIPTION: (Provide a description of the project and all its components.) |
- Upgrade the capacity of current regional teacher training colleges (RTTC) to be Teacher education colleges (TEC)
- Provide training to two years teacher training (12+2) to four years training (12+4)
- intake capacity of the two RTTCs: Phnom Penh and Battambang due to its big coverage |
15. PROJECT JUSTIFICATION: (Give reasons why this particular project is considered worthwhile.) |
Majority of Cambodian teachers require professional development. The reasons are that (i) Once teachers enter the teaching profession, they have almost no opportunities for continued professional growth. (ii) Some teachers are not so competent due to their low profile (unqualified applicants) during the recruitment, and (iii) Majority of teachers attended a short period of training, were trained with an old curriculum and there were insufficient teaching and learning materials in schools. |
16. BENEFITS (Who will benefit, directly and indirectly, from the project?) |
- 4,000 teacher candidates who are learning in the two new TEC in Phnom Penh and Battambang.
- 142 educational personnel (teacher trainers, managers, non-teaching staff)working in the two TECs-Phnom Penh and Battambang
