8. THE POLICY AREA OF THE PENTAGON STRATEGY PHASE I THAT THIS PROJECT FALLS UNDER:
9. THE CONTRIBUTION OF THE PROJECT TO ACHIEVE THE ABOVE POLICY:
The project has established 06ha of seed orchard of three major native tree species; Dalbergia cochinchinensis, Pterocapus macrocarpus and Dipterocarpus intricartus. The seed orchard is a unique seed source in Cambodia, which was compiled of many mother trees from vary sources entire country, and it was established base on existing Principles of Mother Tree Selection in the country with technical support from Korea. The project is really contributed to the sufficient forest restoration policies.
10. Support to Cambodia Industrial Development Policy
Does this Project support to the implementation of the Cambodia Industrial Development Policy?

13. PROJECT OBJECTIVE: (Describe the major purpose of the project.)
1. To Implement the long-term tree breeding plan 2. To strengthen the restoration and tree breeding capacities of forestry administration in Cambodia
14. PROJECT DESCRIPTION: (Provide a description of the project and all its components.)
Major Activities of the Project as below: 1. Establishment of Progeny Test Plantation 24 ha 2. Establishment of Seed Orchard 06 ha 3. Practice of silviculture technique for maintenance of forest restoration area 100ha 4. Education, training and dissemination 5. Research on tissue culture 6. Establishment of technical documents
15. PROJECT JUSTIFICATION: (Give reasons why this particular project is considered worthwhile.)
The project is very significant for forest restoration because the seed orchards were established by collecting seeds from vary mother tree sources and planted in progeny test for selecting the good mother tree following categories; growth faster, resistance to disease, straight stem, branch less, and more resistant to impact of environment. On the other hand, the project is conducting research on mass seedling production from tissue culture. If the research is successful, it will strengthen the large scale of forest restoration purpose.
16. BENEFITS (Who will benefit, directly and indirectly, from the project?)
The project helps strengthening the tree breeding capacities of forestry administration staffs and conducting researches in forest restoration. In addition, stakeholders such as students, national and international researchers, local authorities and villagers living near the project sites gain new knowledges from the research via field visit, workshop, study tour, exchanges experiences and documentation, etc. Moreover, Cambodia will have the identified seed sources for Dalbergia cochinchinensis, Pterocarpus macrocarpus and Dipterocarpus intricartus tree species for contributing to forest restoration in the future.
17. FEASIBILITY STUDY
Is a "Feasibility Study " for the Project requied?
If YES, has it been carried out?
18. SOCIAL & ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: (Briefly describe the effects of the project, if any, on the people and the surrounding environment. Will the project assist in alleviating poverty?)
The project has contributed in increasing forest cover by establishing progeny test plantation and seed orchard 30 ha. Training courses on forest fire prevention, benefits of forests, silvicultural techniques were conducted for local people. As the project is more focusing on seed orchard establishment, the livelihood improvement was not prioritized. However, some of them have received benefits from labor cost through participating in some activities such as seedling production, plantation, and maintenance.
19. CLIMATE CHANGE
a. Is any activity or output of the project related to Climate Change?
If Yes, please indicate
b. How is the project relevant to Climate Change?

21. GENDER ANALYSIS: (How does the project affect the roles of the men and women in the project area? Will women be actively involved in the implementation of the project?)
There is no gender discrimination in the project. It always encourages participation of men and women equitably.
22. CAPACITY TO IMPLEMENT: (Does the Ministry have the skills and experience required to implement the project?)
Since the project is new and the first one that conducts native tree breeding, training courses were conducted for project staffs. Moreover, the team keeps communicating with experts in Korea for assisting implementation of some activities.
23. STATUS OF PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION: (Provide a brief update on the progress of the project to date. Discuss any major problems causing delays in project implementation.)
The project stared in early 2016. In the time being, most activities have been conducted on schedule of each year, except the experiment on tissue culture
24. PROJECT PRIORITY : (Please indicates the priority ranking of the project decided by the ministry/agency.)

25. DONOR INVOLVEMENT: (Provide any information on current or potential donor involvement in the project.)
The project is funded by Asia Forest Cooperation Organization (AFoCO) and technical supported by experts from National Institute of Forest Science (NIFoS) and professor of Seoul National University (SNU)
