14. PROJECT DESCRIPTION: (Provide a description of the project and all its components.) |
Disposal of domestic and industrial waste is normally carried out in the form of landfills. With in creasing population size and industrialization, the space available for landfills are descreasing. Beside, the waste materials so disposed also become a source of environmental and health hazards due to harmful gases that are released upon decomposition of organic materials in the waste. Such gases are popularly known as greenhouse gases which are responsible for the phenomenon known as globle warning. Thus, the conversion of organic solid waste (plant and animal origin) and converting it into biogas, which is used as fuel for domestic use or for generation of electrical energy, provides an eco-friendly solution to the recycling of solid waste. |
15. PROJECT JUSTIFICATION: (Give reasons why this particular project is considered worthwhile.) |
About 2.7 billion people in developing countries, including Cambodia, lack access to clean energy for cooking, and rely on traditional biomass fuels like firewood, agricultural residues and dried manure. This situation forces women and children to spend hours on gathering traditional fuels. Burning biomass fuels also generates in-house fumes that pose serious health risks. The use of biogas, on the hand , provides clean cooking energy, contributes to health improvement and reduces the time need for biomass collection. |
