13. PROJECT OBJECTIVE: (Describe the major purpose of the project.)
In order to stabilize temple structure, assure security for tourists and improve heritage value
14. PROJECT DESCRIPTION: (Provide a description of the project and all its components.)
- Document topography, condition of structure and drainage system within ground yard of Prasat Chen - Undertake archaeological excavation to study structure foundation, cultural objects and deposited soil - Prepare restoration site and ground yard for storage of dismantled stone - Remove trees with high risk - Dismantle ancient stone pieces/blocks, test strength of foundation, remove deposited soil, compact and test strength of staircase foundation after compaction - Repair ancient stone pieces/blocks, reassemble and fix cracking area
15. PROJECT JUSTIFICATION: (Give reasons why this particular project is considered worthwhile.)
Prasat Chen consists of different structure which include structure built of brick and sandstone, and structure built of laterite with sandstone. Currently, these temple have been badly damaged, and undertaken intervention through proping and tightened by cable to prevent them from stone fall. Though, many laterite stone is facing to fallen down as a result of strong win, rain and other natural factors, and may cause risk to tourists incidentally if immediate restoration measure is not taken to bring back strength of its structure. In addition, the restoration of the Prasat Chen is to improve value of the ancient temple structure as well as serve for tourism sector.

This project benefits to local community living within the heritage site, school students and university students, national and international researchers and conservationists in the field of archaeology, Royal Government of Cambodia, and national and international tourists who visit the Koh Ker archaeological site.
