The connectivity in rural areas plays a vital role to bring about social and economic development momentum in rural communities. Beside from road improvement, bridge construction is the most important invention to support connectivity among communities where they are disconnected by streams, and small rivers |
14. PROJECT DESCRIPTION: (Provide a description of the project and all its components.) |
Construction of at least 53 existing bridges to safe and stable condition in 6 provinces including Prey Veng, Kampong Thom, Kampong Chhnang, Kampong Speu, Preah Vihea and Steung Treng province. |
15. PROJECT JUSTIFICATION: (Give reasons why this particular project is considered worthwhile.) |
Provide reliable, faster, and safe transport infrastructure with all-weather connectivity in six provinces. |

According to the environmental laws and regulations in Cambodia, the Project does not require environmental impact assessment. However, according to the EDCF Safeguard Policy, the Project has been classified as ‘Category B’ project. Thus, the proposed project shall require the IESE report including ESMP to minimize adverse impacts |

The government, through MRD, will ensure that the GAP is fully implemented and that all project activities are designed and implemented in accordance with ADB's Policy on gender and Development (1998). Measures will include, but not be limited to the following i. works will utilize labor based appropriate technology to the extent possible, ii. at least 20% of unskilled laborers will be women, iii. unskilled men and women workers will received equal pay for equal work, iv. road shoulders will be paved to ease travel and transport for women and girls. The gender categorization of the project is "effective gender mainstreaming" |
