This project aims to improve transport, logistics and trade flows at major international borders.
The main objectives of this proposal include:
• Study and observe the potential of border gates and potential locations for opening new border gates to increase cross-border transport as well as attract foreign direct investment (FDI)
• Study the feasibility of expansion of border gates through the development of both hard and soft infrastructures
• Study the possibility of promoting the opening of new gates that can help attract trade in the region.

14. PROJECT DESCRIPTION: (Provide a description of the project and all its components.) |
The project aims to improve cross border transport and trade flows to promote the development of the logistics sector in Cambodia, especially in the border areas, through the studies on developments of both hard and soft infrastructures. The main components of the project are include as below:
• Conduct Study:
- Collecting data with the authorities to identify key point and indicator of the potential and possibility of main border gates in Cambodia as a basis for comparing and analyzing the capabilities and potential of other border gates that will be developed in the future;
- Checking the actual location at the border area and geographical location;
- Traffic counting on the current traffic volume that across the border gates.
• Developing study report:
- Preparing the draft study report on Promotion of Transport and Logistics competitiveness at Cambodia-Vietnam Border and Cambodia-Thai Border through improvement of Cross-border facilities which are required both hard and soft, that support the development of those border gates, including the technical standards that are relevant to neighboring countries;
- Conducting the technical stakeholder meeting to collect feedback or more input on the study report;
- Revising and prepare the final report.
• Conducting workshop:
- Conduct the dissemination workshop on official study report to all stakeholder or relevant authorities for announcement the project on development or establish supplementary infrastructures to expand the border gates, which improve cross border logistics and transportation based on the study report. |
15. PROJECT JUSTIFICATION: (Give reasons why this particular project is considered worthwhile.) |
• With NLC and NLSC recently established, GDL’s management capacity, as the secretariat will play a key role in the further development of the logistics sector, is in need for strengthening.
• Logistics development sector is also taken into consideration in the RGC’s IDP 2015-2025
• As Cambodia's economy has grown significantly, the flow of goods, passengers and services has also grown considerably, especially at border gates, which require capable and efficient support infrastructures. |
16. BENEFITS (Who will benefit, directly and indirectly, from the project?) |
• With quality and capable infrastructures, the trade flows and opportunity to attract investment will increase, which in turn promotes the economic development of Cambodia
• Logistics and transportation services are improved and with standard quality compared to neighboring countries due to the promotion and support of infrastructure at the border gate
• Other relevant government agencies may use the project results report as a supporting document for their own work and personal gain. |
