14. PROJECT DESCRIPTION: (Provide a description of the project and all its components.)
The Registration of Small-Scale Private Forest Plantations signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the Republic of Korea and the Kingdom of Cambodia on December 24, 2019. The project is funded by the Government of the Republic of Korea through the AFoCO Secretariat for a period of two years from 2020-2021, implemented by the Department of Forestry and Private Forest Development of the Forestry Administration.
15. PROJECT JUSTIFICATION: (Give reasons why this particular project is considered worthwhile.)
The project aims at distributing seedlings of fruit trees and native tree species (Dalbergia cochinchinensis) to local communities and development of policy related to Guidelines on the Registration of Private Forest Plantations in Cambodia as well as strengthening of capacity of involved government officials based on experiences, best knowledge and technology associated with fast growing and native tree species plantations to supply timber and materials for the production of furniture and paper mills domestically and regionally. If the Guidelines is approved, the registration of private forest plantations will be conducted to facilitate transportation, harvesting of private plantations and other service.
16. BENEFITS (Who will benefit, directly and indirectly, from the project?)
The expected outcome of the project is the piloting of 375-425ha of small-scale private forest plantations (or agroforestry plantations) by 2 340 small-scale farmers that will unleash a process designed to ameliorate the effects of the insufficient development of those plantations and will ultimately result in creating production sources of commercial timber trees and fuelwood, increasing forest cover, improved local livelihoods, reduced degradation of natural forests, and increased investment in local development.

The project will contribute to alleviation of poverty of local communities especially the planting of seedlings of fruit trees like mongos which have high demand on the market and export potentials which help to promote livelihood of local communities.
