13. PROJECT OBJECTIVE: (Describe the major purpose of the project.)
To provide direction for medium to long term strategic direction for the adaptation of development and management of the Central Flood Plain of Cambodia to the impact of flood from climate change.
14. PROJECT DESCRIPTION: (Provide a description of the project and all its components.)
The Central Flood Plain Strategic Floodplain Management Plan (Strategic Plan) set out an overarching strategy for management flood risk in the CFP. This will be based on Technical Evidence that follow best practice requirement principles to provide an assessment of current and future flood risk and considers a holistic suite of multi-disciplinary measures including structural mitigation works, land use planning, disaster management and community awareness and resilience activities.
15. PROJECT JUSTIFICATION: (Give reasons why this particular project is considered worthwhile.)
Despite some of the present advantage of the inundation, Cambodia is seen as one of the most hazard-prone counties in Southeast-Asia (UNDP, 2004) With the future socio-economic developments in the Lower Mekong Basin countries and Cambodia in particular, having an economy that is undergoing rapid grown and transformation, flood impacts - such as the historical 2000 and 2011 flood and resulting damages will increase.

90% of total population in the countries who are living and investing in this Central Floodplain.

Both men and women will be equally affected by the flood risk resulted by impacts of climate Change and their roles are important in adaptation flood risks management planning. Women can join the project.

The CNMC will coordinate MOWRAM and related Line Ministries who have the expertise and experience in project implementation. International Technical experts will be required to support in project development and implementation.
