14. PROJECT DESCRIPTION: (Provide a description of the project and all its components.) |
The project will continue to work with commercial vegetables farmers, traders, consumers and agricultural cooperatives in 15 target provinces. The project will support safe vegetable production, aromatic rice seed production, and crop diversification and provide market linkage facilitation between farmers and traders/rice millers. The expectation of the project is to increase safe local vegetable production to meet local demands and increase the use of good rice seed throughout the country.
The project includes 4 components:
1. Promoting vegetable value chain
2. Promoting rice value chain
3. Promoting crop diversification
4. Project management and partnership strengthening |
15. PROJECT JUSTIFICATION: (Give reasons why this particular project is considered worthwhile.) |
Even there have been considerable investments from the government, development partners and private sector on vegetable and rice crops, the vegetable and rice seed production still cannot meet the increasing local demands. Boosting Food Production (BFP) in the first phase (2016-2019) implemented by the GDA using government budget and staff produced good results but still cannot meet the increasing demands of local vegetable and rice seed from consumers. However, the project has produced positive results in increasing vegetable production and rice seed. To further achieve this, the GDA will implement BFP Phase II (2020-2024). |
