The project aims to increase economic activities and environmental protection in the towns of Kampong Chhnang and Pursat in the Tonle Sap Basin. |

The project will contribute to increased economic activities and environmental protection in towns in the Tonle Sap Basin.
The Project has following key outputs: 1. Kampong Chhnang urban area environmental improvements, 2. Pursat urban area environmental improvements, 3. Community mobilization and environmental improvements, 4.Strengthened sector coordination and operations, 5. Strengthened capacity for project implementation, and operations and maintenance |

The project will respond to the need of municipal governments for integrated urban environmental management in urban areas around Tonle Sap Lake. The project follows the Tonle Sap Urban Areas Development Framework (TSUADF) and Kampong Chhnang and Pursat urban development strategies to 2030. |

More than 100,000 residents in the two municipalities of Kampong Chhnang and Pursat will benefit from the Project. |

The Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT), through its General Department of Public Works (GDPW), is the Executing Agency (EA) for the project in Cambodia. The EA has established a centralized project management unit (PMU), and the PMU director was designated. The PMU is executing and providing overall supervision of the subprojects. The PMU is supported by Project Management and Implementation Support (PMIS) Consultant firm, individual consultants recruited in accordance with ADB Guidelines on the Use of Consultant.

23. STATUS OF PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION: (Provide a brief update on the progress of the project to date. Discuss any major problems causing delays in project implementation.) |
Overall progress as of December 2018 is estimated at 17% against time-lapse of 43% and the cumulative disbursement is USD2.6 million equivalent to 5.5% of the budget. Topographical surveys and geotechnical investigations have been completed. Detailed engineering design for solid waste management (landfill) components in each of the two municipalities was completed and being procured. Detailed Design of Pusat drainage subproject is in progress.
Other Key Issues:
- Delays primarily due to continuing uncertainty and land acquisition and resettlement challenges associated with the largest activity under the project, the flood protection embankment in Kampong Chhnang.
